Forever synonymous with courage, solidarity and resilience, Ground Zero is the nickname for the area formerly occupied by the Twin Towers. Voicemail messages, interviews, eyewitness accounts, live music, audio artifacts… this intense, not-to-be-missed memorial tour will take you through the lobby’s revolving doors to the piano bar at Windows on the World to St. Paul’s Chapel.

This Soundwalk is narrated by Paul Auster, novelist, screenwriter, director, poet, New Yorker, best selling writer of eleven novels including The Book of Illusions and The New York Trilogy; the films Smoke and Blue in the Face; and host of NPR’s National Story Project. In the aftermath of September 11, 2001, Auster added his distinct and original voice to NPR’s Peabody Award winning Sonic Memorial Project, a nationwide collaboration that came together to chronicle and commemorate the life and history of the World Trade Towers.
